In case anyone has forgotten, the bill SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) Is back with vengeance. This bill was introduced in late 2011 and early 2012 by Texas Republican Lamar Smith aka the Fuhrer of Internet Censorship, claiming this bill will help protect corporate profits from pirates stealing them. But what Smith and the Government doesn't want you to know that the only way for that bill to work is to police the internet and censor and/or shutdown websites they think it's 'Copyright Violation'. That includes Youtube, Facebook, eBay, Amazon, deviantArt, FanFiction.net and other websites they don't like. But ever since January 18 last year Online protests were held including blacking out websites like Wikipedia and it worked and SOPA was defeated (or so we thought). But ever since bills like ACTA, and CISPA along with the NSA surveillance since 9/11 have been surfacing.
But now SOPA's back thanks to Obama who also supports NSA surveillance as well as corporations like Viacom, RIAA, MPAA, and so on support these bills. If anyone just voted for Ron Paul instead of Obama, all of this would've been avoided. He wanted to turn America around from the crisis these days and stomp on these surveillance/censor acts for good. But no, he was falsely accused of flimsy offenses and listen to Obama's false promises to get him re-elected. He not only bring America's economy to a crash but violated the Bills of Rights also.
Websites like 4Chan and Derpibooru don't fully understand the threats these bills including SOPA holds and we have warned them from time to time but all they do is mock us, calling anyone who supports internet freedom 'retards' and we should just 'Get the F*** off the internet'. If this bill passes and all websites including theirs shut down and any who visit are arrested and thrown in prison for life, they won't be laughing anymore.
Now don't get me wrong. I'm against plagiarism, counterfeiting and piracy, the taking of one's ideas and passing them off as yours. There are some who will try to do this with music, and those people should be punished. But then again there are those who are just paying tribute to their favorite artists by making covers, and as the old saying goes, "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery." Some artists, believe it or not, watch these covers and don't pursue legal action, because it would hurt their fanbase, the very people who made these artists as big as they are today. This legislation would stifle talent that could be "the next big thing", and it would also be the death of flattery.
We cannot let this happen, we can't just stand by all deaf and dumb 'til this bills is made into Law. And websites like 4Chan should be worried, especially since their website only promotes art theft from fan artists like myself, cyber-bullying and child pornography. We won't be able to make videos or make fan art and fan fiction to show off our creative talent and do online shopping.
