Why the cross? Many of us celebrate christmas without anything religious attached to it.

Well, Christmas is a Pagan holiday called Yule, hence why we have the Yule log and others wishing Happy Yule. :meow: But that all changed when Christians converted the Pagan holiday to get the Pagans into their religion.

Faerie-StarV is correctish.

If Jesus was a real person at all, most studies believe he either was born in early Spring, or mid-Autumn.

The Christians, needing a way to celebrate without persecution from the largely pagan Romans (at the time) began to celebrate it near the Winter Solstice. So that it could go unnoticed.

Then a long time later, the Christians became the Roman Majority, and they began to convert the Pagans and stole the holiday.

There are a ton of meshed-together symbols, like the Pagan Yule Log, the Christian symbols, the Dutch story of St Nicholas, the American creation of the red-suited white-bearded Santa, and the age-old worldwide celebration of Winter.

No problemo :U

I'm an atheist who celebrates christmas.
I've had people ask me before ,"Why do you, of all people, celebrate CHRISTmas."

And I've had to explain the origin of the holiday, and the fact that just because I may not partake in a religion doesn't mean that a holiday can't be enjoyed.

My thought on holidays is that the world is too dark a place nowadays. Any reason to celebrate and be happy is a damn good reason :)

I celebrate the togetherness, feelings of charity and unity under the season. Everyone knows what the holiday season is like, no matter what holiday you celebrate, or even if you don't celebrate at all. So you can relate to just about anybody.

I'm Agnostic and I too celebrate Christmas. :3
Same here. I always corrected them that it's a Pagan holiday, not a Christian holiday but they would either ignore me or call me 'non believer'.

I was only called "nonbeliever" once and I was like. "Uh...Yeah... That's what -atheist- means."
